Teaching Freedom + Economics: Why we use Tuttle Twins

When I was choosing resources for our homeschool, I knew I didn’t just want something that checked academic boxes. I wanted something that would actually mean something, something that would help my kids understand the world they’re growing up in.

That’s what led me to the Tuttle Twins and purchasing their combo pack.

What I didn’t expect, though, is how much it would impact me as a parent too.

The way these books break down topics like economics, entrepreneurship, and personal responsibility has helped me better understand and articulate concepts that can feel overwhelming at times. It’s given me the confidence to have clearer, more meaningful conversations with my kids because I’m learning right alongside them.

Right now, we’re using the combo pack primarily as free reading, especially for us as a family. It keeps learning natural and curiosity-led rather than forced. But I can already see how, as we work through the books more intentionally, we’ll be able to tie them into specific subjects down the line and build on those concepts in a deeper way.

For my high schooler specifically, our English approach looks a little different.

We’ve been incorporating the “true conspiracies” book (not included in combo pack) into the curriculum not in a dramatic or fear-driven sense, but as a way to develop critical thinking, analysis, and discernment. It’s given us the opportunity to explore perspective, bias, and how information is presented.

Instead of just reading for comprehension, my student is learning to question, evaluate, and form their own thoughts.

And what I’ve really loved is how this has naturally extended beyond individual learning.

It’s become something we can talk through together as a family, conversations about real-world systems, decision-making, and truth. Conversations that feel relevant, thoughtful, and grounded.

And to me, that’s the goal.

I don’t just want strong readers I want thoughtful, aware, and discerning individuals.

The Tuttle Twins has been a meaningful part of that journey for us not just as a resource, but as a starting point for deeper understanding and connection in our home.

If you’re looking to bring more intentional, real-world learning into your homeschool or downtime, this has been such a valuable addition for us.
