Unmasking Season: Choosing Peace Over Pretending

As the world dresses up in masks and costumes, I find myself thinking about the invisible masks so many of us wear every day the “I’m fine” smile when our hearts are heavy, the “I’ve got this” attitude when we’re quietly overwhelmed, the way we hold ourselves together because falling apart feels unsafe.
Maybe for you, that mask has become second nature. You wear it to work, around friends, or even at church. You keep busy because slowing down means you might have to face what’s really going on inside. I get that I’ve done the same.
But lately, God’s been teaching me that healing begins when we stop pretending we’re okay and start trusting that he can handle what we’re hiding.
He doesn’t ask us to be perfect. He simply asks us to be present, to bring him our real emotions of the anxiety, the guilt, the exhaustion, and the fear and let him do the restoring. We don’t have to keep performing or proving ourselves. We can breathe, release, and trust that growth comes not from pretending to be whole, but from allowing him to make us whole.
A quote to take with you today and everyday after is..
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” -Matthew 11:28
This season, while the world celebrates disguise, maybe our invitation is to unmask. To let God see the places that still need healing, not with shame, but with surrender.
Yes, we’re still called to grow to move forward, to become better, to leave behind habits and thoughts that don’t align with who God says we are but that growth doesn’t come from hiding behind a mask. It comes from honesty from allowing him to meet us in the raw, unfiltered spaces of our hearts.
So, here’s to unmasking not to expose, but to heal, here’s to trusting that it’s okay not to have it all together. Here’s to resting in the truth that when we release what we’ve been holding, God can do the real work of renewal.
You don’t have to be perfect to be loved. You just have to be willing to be seen. 🤍
